Ascent Trip Report

I researched the Fayette County GIS maps, which show 2-foot contours. If you believe in LiDAR, you can reduce Fayette from 36 possibilities to six that I visited.

Area 32 is the only spot that has a natural 1010 contour. This is in a vacant lot behind an abandoned house at 1502 GA Hwy 92. I walked to the top of the "hill," which looks like it is accurately rendered on the GIS map.

Just north of here on Peters Road, Areas 29 and 30 reach 1008. Across GA 92 from Area 32, Area 33 reaches 1006. These are along the same ridgeline at the 1010 point and are all easily accessible from the road.

There are also a couple of 1006 bumps at Area 15 and Area 16, east of Hwy 74 (Joel Cowan Parkway). None of the other 30 areas reaches 1006. When working with LiDAR, I usually allow a 2-contour margin of error, so I feel confident in ruling them out.

Areas 9 and 10 have been built up into ramps for an overpass on Hwy 74. They clock 1016 on LiDAR but are obviously not natural.
