Ascent Trip ReportSeen this intriguing named feature on USGS map for some time and we had just grabbed Ormes peak for the 1k+ prominence so, why not go check out the Devil's Kitchen? Road all the way is pretty good. Mostly 4wheel drive trucks out hunting but this is an easy forest road. High clearance is helpful but not mandatory. At least AWD or 4H good because in steep sections the feldspar sand made my tires spin a few times without going into 4H but still easy. Narrow so passing requires pullouts or backing out. Bad time of year to be there. Orange blaze hunters everywhere even on top of this feature. There is no prominence here just a nice pile of rocks with an easy scramble to the top and some nice views in 180 degree direction. Hiked around briefly and got out of there since we forgot to bring our orange baize. |
