Ascent Trip ReportOne of the truly great short hikes in western NC, Craggy Pinnacle (which lies between Craggy Gardens and Craggy Dome) is a real gem.
From the Craggy Dome Overlook parking lot, take the well maintained trail up the eastern side of the mountain for .7 miles to a stone crafted overlook. On a good day their are 360 degree views of Craggy Gardens, Lane Pinnacle and other mountains to the west, the Ivy Creek watershed to the North and Craggy Dome, Walker Knob and the western rim of the Black Mountains the east. On the way down take the side trail to a lower viewpoint that offers even closer views of the great Craggy Mountains. |
