Ascent Trip Report

Took Stewart Springs Road to FS Road 17 which is paved all the way. Started at 9am from the Parks Creek trailhead. Temperature was 49 degrees. Picked this trailhead because this late in the season the wildflowers have faded and the meadows are dry. Followed the PCT to the junction with the Deadfall Lakes trail while crossing a few seeps and a couple of small creeklets. Continued up the Deadfall Lakes trail past the lakes and up the ridge to a saddle. Turned onto the signed Mt. Eddy trail. Up around 8 or 9 switchbacks to the summit. Tremendous view of Mount Shasta and the entire area from Mount Lassen, Castle Rocks, the Trinity Alps, Marble Mountains, Siskiyou Range, and up into Southern Oregon (Mt. McLoughlin. Located the PVC tube register in the concrete sump. Unfortunately, the last person did not screw the lid on tight and all of the papers inside were soaked. I took them out and tried to let them dry out a bit before placing them back in. Fortunately, I added a new logbook in a plastic baggie with pen. Encountered a couple camping at the upper lake and they arrived at the summit while I was leaving. Saw another hiker below the lakes, and a thru PCT hiker heading south on the Parks Creek Trail. Time up included removal of lots of rocks and downed small branches from recent wind storms. Nice and tidy trail now. Enjoy!
