Ascent Trip Report

After reading the other trip reports, I decided to try a different route. Overall, I liked the route. I drove my ATV into the Southeast canyon until the trail stopped, and then headed up the dry creek at the bottom of the canyon. I tried to stay at the bottom of the canyon as long as possible, since the junipers are quite dense on this mountain. There was only one dry waterfall that I had to climb around, but the rest of the dry creek was fairly easy to navigate. The creek then ends, and I headed up the wall of the canyon to the North / Northwest. This was a little steep, but not bad. Once on top of the ridge, it was all about looking for a straight line of empty space among a sea of junipers. I didn't have to backtrack much at all - just had to walk around junipers.

The return trip was a little easier, and overall the total round trip distance was 2 miles. It took me 2 hours total, even with stops. Not sure how this compared to the other route, since I haven't done the other one, but I think it was not bad. Class 2.

By the way, this road:,-112.9572575/39.7630506,-112.877594/@39.7045197,-112.9576717,23971m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!4m1!3e0

was quite nice - you could drive a sedan on this road easily. Once you turn onto Keg Mining Road, the quality starts to decrease (although it's still not bad). But overall, the roads were really quite smooth and free of ruts.
