Ascent Trip ReportBecca and I were up early and headed out to Ashford for this hike in the hopes that we would see some great fall color and views of Mt Rainier on this bluebird day. We were not disappointed! Of note, the Lake Christine trailhead is currently inaccessible due to rockfall on the road, but it only adds 5-10 min of hiking to park at the switchback below the rockfall and hike to the TH. Both of us have been wanting to do this hike for quite some time as it is good trail in a nice wilderness that seems to see few visitors. We encountered a pair of hunters near Lake Christine, a solo hiker near the Beljica Meadows junction, and a small group that arrived at the summit of Gobbler's Knob as we were departing. We made good time to Goat Lake, where we enjoyed a nice break basking in the warm autumn sunshine. After that, it was on to the summit, where we were treated to stunning views of Mt Rainier's western slopes while we ate our lunch on the lookout tower walkway. The fall color was in full swing on the section of trail just below the summit where we had some great pictures of the color with Rainier, Unicorn, and St Helens behind.
The trail back to the car passed right by Mt Beljica, our secondary objective for the day. A nice trail took us to the summit where we were finally treated to views of Mt Adams, which was blocked by Mt Wow from the top of Gobbler's Knob. The summit of Mt Beljica made a wonderful rest spot and we spent quite a bit of time there enjoying the view, having a snack, and taking the obligatory summit photos.
Overall, this could not have been a more perfect day hike with my favorite hiking partner! Pics
