Ascent Trip Report

We hiked the Woody Ridge Trail from the east side then approached via the Black Mountain Crest Trail. The Woody Ridge Trail is steeper than many, especially in the middle section, but is well-marked (yellow plastic diamonds) throughout its length. The lower section was wet thanks to recent rains but this caused us no problems. The bushwhack / use trail to the top of Gibbs was easily located thanks to the comment in a recent trip report -- as noted there the unmarked trail heads east at a spot near two large spruce trees and was still marked by a piece of green flagging. We found the top well-marked by a fairly obvious rock outcrop, a small cairn, and a sign hanging on a nearby branch. We did have to duck under a branch or two to get to the summit rock outcrop. As others have noted, the trail does NOT go over the summit of Gibbs, contrary to what maps might imply.
