Ascent Trip ReportI ended up hiking 11 miles, some of it too far away from the canyon to get good views, but I did go far enough to get some decent pictures of what appears to be the reddish colored hills and mountain that gave the name to the Wilderness Area. It also got quite sandy about two miles past Snow Benchmark. The trail seemed to keep going and perhaps could be traveled much further. Anyway I came here to get the benchmark, so I turned around and bagged it on the return leg. The views from the summit were very good. The short periods of rain actually make walking in the sandy areas better.
