Ascent Trip Report

From our CG in Lac Frontiere we drove east on #204 to Saint Pamphile where we went directly to our first hike before coming back for brunch at a local restaurant.

MONTAGNE DU ROCHU … 3.6km, 275' gain, 50 minutes RT.
From JCT 204/Rang des Gagnon at north side of Saint Pamphile we went east on Gagnon for 12.5km to a cabled-off road on the right #312, signed "Property Privee, Defense de Passer" - we parked here (47.05130-69.67950).
I hiked the road southeast 1.4km to its crest east of the summit, a track leaves here and heads/climbs west 400 meters to the summit (47.04400,-69.66791).
A superb lookout on the south side, at top of a rocky cliff, offers great views to the south. A hunter's cache is near-by.
The land owner drove in just as I was leaving the road for the summit. He doesn't want hikers here, gave me permission "since you are here".

BOUNDARY MONUMENT 245 … road walk, 2.6km, 40' gain, 38 minutes RT.
From the church in Saint Pamphile we went west on 204 for 3.2km to a left onto Route Miville, 1.5km southeast turned left on Rang Simple, .4km east turned right on Route a Delphin which leads southeast 1.6km to the USA/CA Border. We parked at .4km and walked the rest of the way.
At the Boundary line I went left (east) 80 meters to the crest at Boundary Monument 245 (granite, renewed 1977). Nice open farm-like area.

LE CALVAIRE … road walk, 600 meters, 140' gain 15 minutes RT.
We found our way to the south side of the summit at the crest of the road with the "Station of the Cross", great view from this location. I went to the house #1840 100 meters to the east and found no one home, so I walked the road behind the house 300 meters to the summit's Communication Towers.

BOUNDARY MONUMENT 251 … a drive up.
From JCT 204/Route Amedee-Pelletier (west of Calvaire) we drove southeast on Amedee-Pelletier 4km directly to the USA/CA Border and Monument 251 (granite renewed 2004). Private house on the left, Quebec side.
40 meters to the east Monument 250A (original cast iron).

BOUNDARY MONUMENT 256A … .8km, 18 minutes RT.
From JCT 204/Route Theriault (east of Saint Adalbert) we went southeast on Theriault for 4km to the USA/CA Border and parked (46.84193,-69.85136). 40 meters to the left (east) is a broken concrete pedestal on the ground with BM "USA/CA 256A1, 1991".
I turned right and walked west 300 meters to the crest of the Boundary Line at Monument 256A - the highest-point-of-land between Dead Brook to the east and Brown Brook to the west. It is a rare type Monument - square, about 1 foot high with a flat top.

MONTAGNE BELLEVUE … woods roads wb, 2.8km, 443' gain, 50 minutes RT.
From JCT 204/Route Belanger west of Saint Adalbert we drove south on Route Belanger for 1.6km to a 4-way JCT where we turned left onto Route de la Montagne, went west .8km to house #61 on the right for permission (no one home). We continued southwest on a lesser road for another .3km to a Sugar Maple Facility #68 (no one here), parked here (46.83959,-69.89886).
I hiked/climbed southwest up the road .5km to a 4-way JCT (46.83615,-69.89941), went right and climbed generally westerly/northerly abt .8km to a fork (46.83697,-69.90407) where I stayed right (easterly) for abt 100 meters to the high ground on the right. The HP somewhat obvious is inside some rough brush (46.83718,-69.90319).
When we got back to house #61 (above) 2 guys were chatting inside the garage, one was the owner of the Sugar Maple Facility. Had a nice chat, he's has no problems with hikers.
