Ascent Trip ReportStarted from the North Lake Creek TH and followed the 14er’s description. Most of the route through the trees is cairned but we still lost the path several times, probably to our benefit. Our path stayed somewhat lower than the more obvious path (which we stumbled upon on descent). The route we took seemed to avoid a steep side hill that contained much blow-down. On descent it was easily managed but would not want to ascend. It seems the 14er description on ascent avoids this. The remaining ascent up the south ridge was steep with sections of scree but not terrible. As you pass the mine you’ll notice the usual Colorado mine remains except for the remains of an old PVC pipe system which lays destroyed and scattered about. The mine owners should get up there and remove this pipe. Above the pipe is more scree as you follow the ridge and the summit soon after. Our traverse over to PT 13736 was fun. The ridge looks pretty rugged but is all class 2. Took about half an hour to get to. The views from both summits are amazing in all directions. As said before the descent route seems easier to follow but probably would have been harder on ascent.
