Ascent Trip ReportThis was Artski and my first state highpoint and first county highpoint. It's insignificant stroll has been the stepping stone for many mountains and highpoints since, and many more to come. We exited I-90 in Worthington and took highway 59 to highway 60 into Iowa. Turning left on 130th Street we saw a sign, mostly obscured by shrubs, saying that Hawkeye Point was 1/16 miles ahead. We were driving to fast and didn't realize how short of a distance that was. We turned right at the intersection onto Polk Ave, a bit confused. Then I looked to the west and saw the feeding structure and recognized it from google earth. That was the highpoint. We turned around and went almost all of the way back to the sign where there were some men painting a white water tank on the highpoint's farm. We waved at them and walked over one or two fences then went out to the structure. There sat a commemorative stone with a register. It was a properly windy day at such a high elevation. I took a key chain that read Hawkeye Point in the shape of Iowa, and I still use it as a memory of how my highpoint began.
