Ascent Trip ReportMountaineers trip led by Nancy leaving from Sunrise on a sunny brisk Fall day. We made good time to Mystic lake enjoying stunning views, first of sunrise at aptly named Sunrise, the Mountain, the meadows, etc. The ground was frozen and crunched under our feet. Log bridge over Winthrop Creek was frosted over (and slanted) so we inched our way across carefully; a fall into the water would quite likely prove fatal. We followed a GPS track from Mystic Lake to Mineral peak; very useful as the saddle is obscured and the route is not obvious. Lots and lots of fresh bear and elk scat, and one pile of big feline scat. Nice rock scramble to summit where we found an old Mountaineers summit register with names going way back in time. This peak does not get a lot of visitors. Total trip per GPS was 22 miles, 5300' gain. 13 hours car-to-car. Enjoyed sunset at Sunrise too.
