Ascent Trip ReportUsing a rental Chevy Colorado 4x4 from the Reno airport (National), I drove from Round Mountain to Manhattan to Belmont to Meadow Canyon road. Made it to the high 4x4 trailhead (38.722001,-116.928713) without any problems, didn't scrape anything going up or down.
2WD cars should be able to make it to somewhere around 8000' (38.689971, -116.919425).
Didn't try the direct road from Jefferson summit to round mountain since I was driving down after sunset, but I kind of wanted to give it a try on the way up since it would have cut out 76 miles of driving.
I was hoping to bag Arc Dome on Sunday, but I got a flat very early Sunday morning on the paved highway 376. Luckily, the rental truck had a full-size spare, and I was able to drive it on its spare back to reno, where I got it repaired for $20. It seems like this area likes to eat tires, I've only ever had two flat tires in my life, and both were in western Nevada.
