Ascent Trip ReportChristina was anxious to try this again after she got spooked by weather on Labor Day Weekend. Me looking at a car up in Colorado Springs provided a great opportunity. We spend the night in Pueblo and where on the road at about 5:00 am. Unfortunately, I missed the exit for the Legends Highway, and we did not start out on the trail until close to 8 am.
The weather was so much nicer this time with barely any clouds in sight on the ascent. We knocked out the first 2.5 miles to the large rock cairn in a little under an hour. The climb was uneventful and I was able to make the ascent without using my hands and Christina only needed help in a few places.
We had the summit to ourselves, with great views of East Spanish Peak, and the Sangre de Christo mountains to the west.
Clouds were starting to role in as we headed down. An ominous looking cloud parked itself over the summit for about half an hour and then blew over without event. Made it back to the car and did the long drive back to Albuquerque, stopping in Las Vegas to get pizza after everything in Raton was closed.
Nice to be able to get the fantastic views from the summit on this trip!
