Ascent Trip Report

Set off for Ogul #6 and #7 today. Started at the Carson Pass parking lot on north side of 88. Went up the ridge directly behind the bathrooms and followed the basin back there until it ended and made an ascent high across that valley. I would not recommend this approach as it is very steep and very loose. Would have been a lot faster to follow the ridge top and climb along that. Once we gained the ridge we pushed the final climb to the summit blocks rather easily. I was reading reports up there to find the best route up the large volcanic slab. The best way I found was up a little chimney that had some rocks perfectly placed to stand on while going up. I then hit an open area that two options, up climb and follow the spine to the summit, but high exposure on both sides, or down climb a little crack to ledge about 4 feet wide. I downclimbed to ledge and went to the next area to climb which led me in a counter clockwise direction and up to the summit. Register is in a white plastic tub up there. Great views from the top. Only 1.6 miles to the summit. Headed over to Stevens Peak next. Read that report for the rest of the trip. Elevation and mileage includes Stevens.
