Ascent Trip Report

First things first. Thanks to Tom Layton for his excellent research and detail regarding this summit which may be the new Currituck County HP. Followed his route and although there were folks home on Shovler Court, they were more than happy to grant me access to to Dune 2 (?) behind the large house in the cul-de-sac. Always astounds me that folks build houses near 79 foot dunes or on the tops of 4000 foot mountain ridges. Go figure. Actually they seemed quite intrigued that their property was near the HP. Entrance road into this neighborhood is gated and I was told by the "authorities" that unless I was a vetted guest, no access. I always respect and obey that response if given. Hence Tom's instructions were crucial.

UPDATE: do not think Hurricane Florence had much effect up here, but the winds and rain could have easily changed the dunes so that Luark Hill (see my separate post) may yet again be the HP. However, it is too soon after the storm to determine where the Currituck HP may be now....
