Ascent Trip Report

GPS track shows two driving options to this peak. Southern track starts at pavement end on Chewiliken Valley Rd. Northern track ends at Hwy 20. Both branches are high speed dirt. Main FR-3015 is also fast to unsigned intersection with FR-200, then slower but not bad. Previous 2012 report indicated 4wd is needed higher up. This is no longer the case. Our outback made it no issue and I could have got my 2007 Toyota Yaris up here no problem in dry conditions. There is a spot around 5000’ where a storm caused some erosion. The road is likely going to wash away if another bad rain hits, but that spot is flat and smooth now, just waiting to collapse away... This peak, along with Whitestone Ridge was one of the two most enjoyable and scenic of the entire Newman drive-up prominent peakbagging weekend. Pics
