Ascent Trip ReportI was the second car in line when the gate opened at 6 am. I had made an online reservation. $15 for the park entrance and $5 for the parking permit at Roaring Brook Campground. Takes a while to drive the 6 miles to Roaring Brook Campground at 20mph via the tote road. Signed the hiker log book and started hiking at 0644. Made a loop hike by going up via Chimney Pond, North Basin Cut-off, to Hamlin Ridge Trails to Hamlin Peak then NW Basin to the Saddle Trail to Baxter Peak arriving at Noon. Descended via the knife Edge trail to the Helon Taylor Trail back to the Ranger Station and done just before 4 pm. Total hike 12.46 miles in 10 hours 7 minutes 5459 feet elevation change. |
