Ascent Trip Report

Hart County has eight locations with 960 contours. Hoping to narrow them down before an upcoming trip, I searched unsuccessfully for a county GIS map. However, I did find that the new World Topo overlay on has several spot elevations that may be helpful--even though they are not definitive.

COHP Area 7 shows the highest spot elevation of 964 at N34.35984 W83.05425. This appears to be in an open field about 200 yards south of Old Canon Church Road.

COHP Area 4 is next highest with 963 at N34.35657 W83.04219. Note that the 960 contour spans Blackmon Road. COHP marks a spot north of the road, but the 963 spot is south of the road, south of two chicken houses, which are southwest of a water tank, and maybe 100 yards west of Airline Goldmine Road. Given the proximity to the chicken houses, this might not be natural ground--we'll have to check it out.

I was pulling for COHP Area 1, BM Owens, in a yard at the corner of Airline Goldmine Road and Kotal Road. This has a spot elevation of 970 on the quad, but it registers only 962 on World Topo and 966 on the USGS BM datasheet (NAVD88).

COHP Area 3 also reaches 962, according to World Topo.
