Ascent Trip ReportFor the first part of this trip, please see my entry under Parker Peak.
From Parker Pass, our route up to Koip was fairly straightforward. We headed across a broad field of relatively level talus, and began working our way up runoff channels or faint game trails toward the summit of our nearby objective. Anji and I separated a little here, as I opted for a more westerly micro-route, while she worked her way up perhaps 150 meters to the East of my position. In the end we met up again a short time before the summit, just above the wreckage of a WWII-era B-24 bomber. The path up to Koip Peak was along a talus ridge, going Class 2 the rest of the way.
The summit featured some interesting views of nearby Kuna Peak, the Kuna Glacier, and the area of the Sierra near Mount Lyell (12000'+ peaks) to the Southwest. We didn't stay long, as our third peak of the day (Kuna) was not far away. We began the descent Southwest amid a lot of very jagged, broken granite. The terrain was rugged and steep in places, but nothing more than Class 2 light scrambling needed during the 16 minute descent to the saddle with Kuna Peak.
For the continuation of this trip, please see the report under Kuna Peak. GPS track shown is for the entire outing.
