Ascent Trip ReportTook part in the 8th Annual Mount Grant Challenge. I did the 1/2 challenge which had 4 vans full of hikers driven to the 8 mile marker and let out to hike the remaining 9 miles. Dirt road hike with water stations spaced every few miles all the way to the top. At the finish line we received a "challenge coin", took pictures, had a break, then proceeded up to the actual high point. Located the register in a large coffee can without a lid, so we placed a rock over it to protect the papers inside (which had been nibbled on by some small creatures). Heard of others spotting a bear and a mountain lion on the way up. Everyone gets driven back to the start at Walker Lake and on the way we saw a very large herd of bighorn sheep - cool! Good group of hikers and the volunteers/organizers were awesome. |
