Ascent Trip Report

A wedding in upper east Tennessee afforded me the opportunity to visit Washington and Sullivan counties early in the morning.
The Sullivan county highpoints are a nice drive up northeast of Elizabethton, one is in a wooded area and the other has a FAA station near it. The road up the mountain was actually “busy” as far as east Tennessee HP go since there are hiking trails and camping nearby on the mountain.
At the top, the FAA tower is obvious, what is not obvious however is that the fence ends and one can go around it. Walk into to woods (north) and the fence will end shortly. Once inside the Sullivan county HP is past the building on the left. It is NOT on the top of the hill, that is actually Carter county.
The wooded area is a little further down on the right up a hill. Wander around till satisfied
And then back to the hotel to get gussied up…
From Elizabethton:
Take US19E/TN37 north out of town then bear left (east) on TN91 for 9.5 miles
Turn left on Panhandle Rd and go up the mountain about 4 miles.
Turn left at the top and continue 3.5 miles to the FAA station
