Ascent Trip ReportAhh…fall political drives across Tennessee. On my way to Nashville from Knoxville to meet with the rest of the campaign staff, I stopped off at Roane county’s highpoint overlooking the town of Rockwood (insert your own Blazing Saddles joke here) and the Tennessee River Valley.
This is a drive up and easy to locate, is it well signed on Hwy 70S. Turn on to Fire Tower Rd and follow it up. There were a few other folks at the top when I visited but no one was a COHPer. I talked to one guy about it for a bit but the 4 teen kids were just up there to smoke I think. They said they had climbed the tower and it was OK, but I was in a time crunch and did not. If I visit again I think I will. There is a great view of the valley.
Take exit 338 (TN-299) south for about 3 miles then turn left on US-70 for 1.2 miles and turn left on Firetower Rd (look for the sign).
