Ascent Trip ReportThis was a four bagger. Hiked the Arkaquah Trail starting at the Trackrock Gap Trailhead. Hit the high point of Locust Log Ridge after a short (easy) bushwhack to the top (small rock cairn). I took the advice of a previous hiker and didn't take first opportunity to leave the trail. I went around the the east side of the peak and double back up the mountain. Almost missed Chimneytop mtn. but it's not far from the trail. Once in the parking lot of Brasstown Bald I walked south to the end of the lot and picked up Wolfpen and followed that up and over Wolfpen Ridge (south) to ensure I made the peak. Then I turned around and walked back to pick up the paved trail to the top of Brasstown Bald. On the top I asked a park attendant in the visitor center where the official highest point was. She took me out into the breezeway between the visitor center and the theater and unlocked a door to a stairway leading down. On the top step she pointed out a USGS Benchmark. I took a picture and put my foot on the BM and then headed back down the trail, the way I hiked up. Great day!
