Ascent Trip Report

Followed Mike’s Maki GPX file. Drive wasn't a problem for compact sedan. From there it is 1.5 miles and 800 ft gain to the usual start (4WD). Total stats should be around 10 miles, 4000 ft. 6.5 hrs roundtrip.

This wasn't a trivial hike for me. I ruined my shoes and socks by walking through fields of wild oats and other slippery pseudo-grains. It felt like slowest hike ever. The whole ridge should be called False Summit Mtns. Main summit isn't visible until you claim first two peaks. Benchmark on first one, and geocache on the 3rd, main summit.

Temperature back at the TH was 91°F. Bring double amount of water and start early. Look out for rattlesnakes: I haven't see any, but habitat is suitable. Tarantula Hawk Wasp was noticed on return, my only second encounter, another was on Mt Diablo on 100°F day. It is over 2" long and is in World Top10 Most Painful Insect Stings.
