Ascent of Wheeler Peak on 2018-09-02
|Date:||Sunday, September 2, 2018|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||13063 ft / 3981 m|
Ascent Trip ReportWith Maithri. Straightforward class 1 trail to summit, not too strenuous except towards the end. We went slowly, taking 4 hours to summit (one way), though I could have done it in less than 3 if I needed to. Great Basin NP is pretty neat. The Lehman caves are spectacular. Bristlecones are ok, standard fare for the area. The night sky is incredible, the milky way almost casts a shadow. The park itself is well worth a visit. Note also that we were able to get a first come first served campsite at the Wheeler peak campground on Saturday morning on the Labor Day weekend. Can't say that of too many other national parks. Hope it remains this way.
