Ascent Trip ReportTerrain: Class 1 Exposure: Some drop-offs close to the trail (Scariness: 3.5/10) Driving: 2WD low-clearance to TH Difficulty: 6/10 Scenery: 8/10 Overall quality: 8/10
This hike is very straightforward, you basically follow a trail the whole way. We started up from the Trail Canyon TH, got up to the junction with the North Loop Trail, followed the North Loop Trail to the base of Mummy Mountain, and then climbed Mummy Mountain.
After Mummy Mountain, we followed the North Loop Trail the whole way to the top of Charleston Peak. It is a very pretty trail; Vegas residents are so lucky to have such a prodigious mountain right in their backyard. There is not much else to comment on the route, other than that it is quite long and there are a couple of drop offs that may make those who are scared of heights nervous. The views up top are absolutely gorgeous.
For the descent, we just followed the North Loop Trail (and then the Trail Canyon Trail) all the way back down to our cars for a good and long out-and-back.
