Ascent Trip ReportWe arrived at the ZEC des Martres welcome center(where is located the gate to go at the Lac à l'Écluse Parking lot), after we completed the Parcs des grands-Jardins Hike (Mont du Lac Pioui & du Lac des Cygnes). We paid the fees to enter the ZEC and then drove for 5 Km on a dirt road. We prepared ourselves to begin the round trip to Mont du Lac à l'Empêche and to Mont du Four. It is a 13,4 Km round trip which took us 4 hours and 16 minutes.
Starting in the trail leading to Mont du Lac à l'Empêche it starts with a little negative elevation (less than 10 meters), and then from 750M we got to 869M high in about 1KM, then after hiking through a flat like path, it climbs again about 60 Meters in 0,75KM. At this high point, there is another kilometers to get to the Summit. It took us just an Hour to get there. and from there on we headed toward Mont du Four which was in sight in the East. The trail then leads to the North before taking a turn toward the South-East.
We hiked down for 1 KM then we got past a little climb of 10 Meters before going down again to 820 meters in the next 0,8KM. After that the trail steepens for about 1,25KM and climbs from 820M to 970M. It took us another hour to get to this point.
The return trail is leading through narrow trail with blueberry plants overlapping in the trail. it also gets in the forest and on exposed rocky slopes as well as marsh area. at some point you will see some plane debris along the trail. The return trip from Mont du Four is 6,5Km long and it took us 2 hours and 10 min. Including a break at the top of Mont du Four.
