Ascent Trip ReportThis was the best part of the day. The connecting ridge between Buffalo and Sacred Buffalo contains several pinnacles and small towers that require path finding and scrambling. It is like a small saw tooth practice run for scrambles like Kelso Ridge on Grays or the saw tooth on Evans but way shorter.
Most of the rock is 2+ and easy class 3 but there is some exposure. Never was the exposure such that I felt unsafe, or needed a helmet. The crux move looked at first like it might approach a class 4 but it was one of those places that looks harder than it is and many hand holds and foot holds - and one of the places where the exposure was not all that much so it even turned out to be easy; so easy that I would say the ridge is a class 3 with perhaps one class 3+ move at the crux. Summit Post calls it a "short sporty scramble" and I think that is a good way to describe it.
I got over it quickly, ate, and then saw a young couple attempting it. I waited to take some cool photos of them scrambling but they were insecure scramblers and were taking a ridiculous amount of time to path find across this feature so I eventually packed my things and headed back through them. I was hoping to capture some shots of people scrambling the pinnacles but with low black clouds all around, my desire to get down and make sure I was not lightening bait overcame my desire for adventure photography.
