Ascent Trip ReportSomewhat counter-intuitive hike: started hike at 0948 hr; about 25 minutes into hike looked like the AT forked; I took the left fork (good thing). After hiking the AT for almost an hour I was wondering when the gravel road to the right would appear: I had read about it in previous trip reports. I thought I had walked at least 2 miles and had been hiking for 50+ minutes. I was about to turn around and call it a day when I saw telephone line. Below that was the gravel road. I took it and it seemed to lose elevation so I pulled my map out (which was nothing more than a digital photo of peakbagger trip report). Within minutes the trail swung around to the left and started gaining elevation reflecting the map's route. Saw the communication towers on the final straight away and reached open summit area at 1102 hr. Looked around and there didn't appear to be any noteworthy high-ground. Amongst the summit hardware I saw nothing that vaguely resembled a 12' diameter blue/white dome I had read about in trip reports. Started down at about 1110 hr from the nondescript summit and reached AT car park at 1220 hr. General observations: the AT follows a tortured path enroute to Blue Mountain that is similar to walking on pickets (for which the AT in PA is notorious). The bedrock appeared to be quartzite. Parking lot was crowded but only saw one other person on trail as I was coming down. Pre-hydrated with 500 ml of water and had no water or food until I returned to trailhead.
