Ascent Trip Report

For this year's 3rd trip to the Laurentiens, the goal was "LE CARCAN" - alternate COHP for MATAWINIE COUNTY, located inside the Parc National du Mont Tremblant. Unfortunately it wouldn't happen as the access road to the TH was closed.
Rose and I found our way to the nice city of Saint-Donat and went directly to the Information Center where we picked up a nice trail map (free) for the area, then north on Hwy #125 to Park Mont Tremblant, Poste d'accueil Secteur de La Pimbina. Where we learned that the access road to the TH for Le Carcan is closed for the summer, the attendant wasn't able to tell us when it would re-open - perhaps in the fall.
We decided to visit a few small peaks in the Saint-Donat area all as per this one only TR.

CAP DE LA FEE …. trail southbound from Chemin Regimbald, 4.6km, 800' gain, 1:30 hrs RT.
From the JCT Hwy #125/Chemin Regimbald, 4.5km north of the Information Center in Saint-Donat, we drove west on Regimbald for 3.3km to the large TH Parking on the right - the northwest side of Baie de l'Ours.
I followed/climbed the marked "Sentier cap-de-la-fee" southbound (staying left at all trail junctions) 2.3km to the rocky summit with great views to the west, Lac Archambault and the ski slopes of Mont Garceau dominating. A moderately easy trail with a few short moderately steep sections.
A very popular destination for the locals, met-up with 4 groups.

MONT COUTU …. logging road/whack from Chemin Nordet ... 3km, 415' gain, 1:50 hours RT.
This summit is west of Cap de la Fee. From the Cap de La fee TH we went back to the JCT #125/Chemin Regimbald, then north on #125 for 2km to a left turn on Chemin Nordet, 8km southwest on Nordet we turned left onto a logging road, this was our TH (46.32336,-74.29443), the summit is to the northeast.
I hiked the logging road (not in use, overgrown in places) east/southeast to a height-of-land at .8km (46.32196,-74.28690) where the road makes a sharp left bend to the north. I started my bushwhack here. The summit is to the left-of-magnetic north at abt .7km.
The whole area was once logged so the hiking route is basically a badly overgrown skid-road with chest-high grass/brush, full of hidden-cuttings making for extremely bad footing. The going was slow and dangerous, I tripped and fell a few times. I zig-zagged my way, followed the odd/short heard path. I pink-flagged my route.
At about 60 meters from the start I crossed the signed Xcountry ski trail "Les Viornes" (which starts at the Cap de La Fee TH (above)), here a "Mont Coutu" sign points north.
The summit area (46.32709,-74.28990) is wooded/rough with no obvious HP, no views this time of year. I rate this one for Peakbaggers only.
