Ascent of Harrower Peak on 2018-07-28
|Date:||Saturday, July 28, 2018|
|Ascent Type:||Unsuccessful - Turned Back|
| Elevation:||11000 ft / 3352 m|
Ascent Trip ReportShould have brought crampons and an ice axe. I didn't think we'd need them since we could see the entire southwest ridge on the drive in, and it was completely snow-free. Apparently I need to spend more time in the Winds, though, because we were turned around not far above the 10,8xx ft lake by a bulletproof, 30+ degree snow slope with a terrible runout. It was only 100 feet wide but was unsafe to cross without proper gear. The route looked fine after that. Pretty bummed to have made the long hike out there only to be shut down before the actual climb even started. All our backup plans had similar obstacles so Kari and I opted to just head out and rest for the remainder of the weekend.
