Ascent Trip ReportPoints to remember:
1) road is awful; best for 4-wheelers and jeeps. Very few small trucks like Toyota Tacoma or Nissan Frontiers or SUVs going up very far.
2) road is drive-able by stock small 4 wheel truck up to 13,800 but not fun and really pushing limit unless a lift kit.
3) 4-low was needed on steep lose sections; but I never hit bottom on clearance; road is rediculouls non-stop bumpy
4) Many park at or before creek crossing; we made it past that to 11200 with no issues other than all internal organs juggled to death.
5) decent camping pullout spaces above 11,200 and some sections with less rocks in road.
6) Big camping area between 11500 and 11700 with good turn arounds
7) Here, we met John Self from Greenland "Ice Cold Gold" reality show from Animal Planet. I stopped and asked him how I knew him and he said from watching the reality show. Then it occurred to me - of course John the ....script crafted antagonist bad guy in the show..... we had an interesting conversation on the show and its characters. He was up with some friends looking for gemstones of course. He was dressed exactly as he looked in the show and his real life personality was so similar to the reality show it was humorous. A fun little surprise.
8) Above this at 12,000 the beginning of the switchbacks is some limited parking;
9) better parking at 13,000 and can proceed down to the saddle of Cronin quite some ways before you hit private land gate. Could make Cronin easier for next time.
