Ascent Trip Report

We arrived at Henry Coe a little before 5:00am and hit the trail a little after. The first part of the hike was through smoke and ash from the campground, but it relented as we made our way over the first ridge. What did not relent were the sequences of ups and downs along the trail to Mount Sizer, the final significant climb being the (supposedly) steepest trail in the Bay Area. We reached the rounded summit at 7:45am as the heat of the day started to set in. We arrived back at the car at 10:30am and got cold drinks from the visitor's center. It was very hazy/smoky due in large part to the numerous fires in the area, notably the Ferguson Fire outside of Yosemite.
