Ascent Trip Report

We drove from Budapest and stopped briefly to visit Zagreb and Plitvice Lakes (highly recommend a visit). We stayed the night in Knin at Guesthouse Slatki Snovi. The host went over the topo map with me and recommended a route starting from the outskirts of Knin. He said it would be more scenic. I was intent on taking the trail from Glavas and he indicated that this route was more well-marked but was exposed to the elements. I planned on running the trail. The guesthouse owner told me it would take a minimum of 4.5 hours to get up to the top and I didn't have that much time to spare. There are signs point the way to the trailhead and enough space for a few cars to park. About 300m from the trailhead are ruins from an old fortress that are pretty neat to explore. Once you get to about 1000m in elevation, there is a spring and a fork in the trail. On the way up, I took the trail to the left. On the way down, I came from the trail on the right and it turned out that my descent route was slightly shorter. I recommend taking one way up and the other down so you can see both sides of the mountain. There were a few huts along the trail. At the summit, there is a summit register, a cross, and a concrete cairn.
