Ascent Trip ReportThis was my 3rd time here since the prior 2 times I had not reached the actual summit of Blue Angel's Peak - this time I was determined to do it! I got started pretty much as the sun was setting. Heavy Border Patrol presence. I went up the main road (helicopter flew super low over me) and took the second left and followed that, sticking left until it became a faint trail. There are actually small cairns on this as it makes it's way to the slope leading to Blue Angel's Peak - which is actually a dual summit. I went over to the border monument #231 first to check that out. Requires jumping "the wall" - a tiny barbed wire fence. From there I went up to Blue Angel's Peak - I went to the summit that has the shrub on top. However, according to Peakbagger, this is not the true summit! I was certain it was higher than its neighbor summit. Maybe I'll have to return for a 4th time!!
I ran back down the trail and was back to my car in no time. Border Patrol were making their descent (4 trucks). One pulled up next to me - I rolled down my window to speak with him, expected to get some questions. Instead, the guy said "Hey I just want to let you know you're my hero". What?? I guess they were watching me run around up there! Very interesting area but I always seem to end up there after sunset!
