Ascent of Hyndman Peak on 2008-08-31Date: | Sunday, August 31, 2008 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Hyndman Peak | Location: | USA-Idaho | Elevation: | 12009 ft / 3660 m |
Ascent Trip ReportThis was my first Idaho ascent, and is highly recommended for beginners in Idaho peakbagging. You get to pick off a 12'er with a nice easy 2nd-3rd class route that has some of the most amazing views you can find anywhere. The route is gorgeous the whole way up, start along a nice creek, then around the base of craggy Cobb Peak, eventually moving into a glacial basin where the scrambling starts between Hyndman and Old Hyndman Peaks.
My buddy and I intended to do Borah and Diamond the following 2 days but a snowstorm blew in while we were attempting Borah and chased us back to Oregon. I would go on to complete borah in 2009 and diamond in 2012. The appeal of these three peaks for me was that these are the 3 range highpoints in Idaho over 12000 feet, and geographically the ranges appear one after another on the map. |
