Ascent Trip ReportVia the Mount Whitney Trail. For Mount Muir, I highly recommend the trip report located at http://www.crespoweb.com/public_html/Pictures/Langley03/. The Mount Muir route photos and description are toward the end. A couple of notes. I found that the UTM coordinates for where to leave the trail were completely off. Not sure if that was my GPS or the coordinates or something else. The main thing is that it's well past the intersection of the Whitney Trail and where the JMT heads downhill toward Guitar Lake. The place where you leave is a pretty wide and obvious gully. Look uphill (east) and you should see one or more cairns marking the spot. Make your way up to the gully all the way to where it ends and where if you go any further, it will drop you to the east side (don't do that). For me, it took me a little while to figure out that the chimney you want (and described in the route referenced above) is the second one from the right. The one furthest to the right looks possible, but it's not the correct one. Once you get up on the correct one, you will see how it matches the photos. Once I committed to the correct chimney, it took me about 10 minutes to follow the route description and reach the top.
