Ascent Trip ReportLost River Peak and it's "Super Gully" route has been showing up a lot online lately, especially on the Idaho summits forum where I enjoying reading trip reports. Inspired by all these reports, my friend and I headed out for a quick day trip. Leaving Kennewick Friday afternoon we drove straight to the trailhead arriving at 3am. Took a 2 hour nap, then set off up the gully. The lower gully was snow free, but the upper two-thirds still had snow, and was firm enough we opted for crampons which made for pretty quick travel. By the time I reached the summit ridge the combination of exertion and lack of sleep gave me the full fledged leg wobbles which made the traverse a little more nerve racking than it should have been. Overcast for entire climb, but almost no wind, and good views out to 30 miles or so. This was a nice climb, it was great to get back to the Lost River Range again. |
