Ascent Trip ReportPerfect snow conditions, beautiful clear skies, great morning hike up the standard avalanche gulch route with a 3am start from the lake. Nice and cold up on the summit plateau, a welcome change from the 80 degree temps at Helen Lake the previous afternoon. Being Memorial Day weekend the camp was packed with dozens of tents, there had to have been 200+ people on the route this Sunday.
This is a mountain that's fascinated me since early childhood so I'm thrilled to have experienced the climb. Got a chuckle out of people accidentally dropping gear while climbing up to the red banks and watching it go sliding down the gulley right on past camp at Helen Lake and down into Avalanche Gulch below. |
