Ascent Trip ReportThis has got to be one of the worst country high points to summit or attempt. Horrific crowds of people, poor trail quality (cinders, ash), and typically poor weather (summer)is common on Fuji. I hiked via the Kawaguchiko Trail (fifth station). Every place on this mountain is a tourist trap and the mountian is so overdeveloped. The crater rim is a zoo. "He who climbs Fuji once is wise, he who climbs it twice is a fool". This was written before there were any gift shops and porta pottys littering the mountain. One could as easily say "he who climbs it once is a fool...." The biggest joke was seeing Japanese people using the oxygen containers that they sell along the way (along with everything else).
