Ascent Trip ReportAfter hiking in and summitting Cirque the previous day, we started out from our camp near Cottonwood Lake 3 at 8:30 and followed the trail to the headwall which was topped by Old Army Pass. Looking it from the outlet of Lake 4, the trail appears to disappear into the headwall. As we got closer, we could see hikers high above us. While I have no doubt that ice and snow could make this a treacherous traverse, for us it was pretty easy. There's a small diversion at the bottom of a snowbank, but really, this is (occasionally rough) class 1 all the way to the pass. From the pass, the path to Langley is straight-forward, either on good trail or guided by large cairns. There's a fun little scramble that marks a turn on the peak to where it gets rougher and steeper, but pretty much just plodding up to the top. Spectacular views in every direction. Back at camp by 4:30 pm.
