This open peak is the high point reached by the part of the Metacomet-Monadnock trail that crosses Gap Mountain. The wooded South Summit is the main peak, and is separated from the North Summit by a short, but not insignificant bushwhack, crossing a wooded. The mountain gets its name from the "gap" between the two principal summits. The north end of the north ridge (the single closed contour just to the right of "Gap Mtn" on the map) has a nice view of Mount Monadnock to the northeast.
