| USGS map available since is in US National Forest. US Forest service reports peak at 3,175 feet above sea level and on the trail signs within the park. USGS map shows simply as greater than 3,150. I am going with the National Forest elevation on signs in park since there were Bench Marks visible in park and it appears they have been surveying in there. Trail bypasses the westernmost knob and climbs up to eastern most knob. Estimated low point in the ridge trail from maps available and from actually hiking the trail and estimating rise - is a saddle before the climbing out on the ridge at around elevation 3,115. Despite the minor prominence (because the ridge connection to El Yunque to the west), the actual feel of prominence is spectacular on this feature as the other 3 sides are very vertical drops in all directions and a popular sub peak to climb in the park. The main trail to El Yunque has several overlooks to Los Picachos where you can see what an impressive vertical form it is in the rain forest. |
