The largest formation in the row is USGS named "Gate Rock" but not a mountain - an eroded formation of interest. Several higher "true" mountain peaks to the north, northwest and west in the elevation range of 8,600 to 9,200 feet including Rocky Mountain and Mt. Manitou to the west. These unusual sandstone formations, however, stand up nearly vertical from the eroded plain which they were formed from at the foot of the mountains north and west of Garden of the Gods.
Essentially the Col would be the dip in the plain before ascending to the north and west at around 6,640. Enterred to show the tallest formations in this popular park of unusually sandstone and limestone eroded features. The row of formations has eroded knobs varying from 6,610 feet to 6,680 feet +/-
