List Description

Are you a peakbagger afraid of heights, snow, cold weather, cliffs, crags, lack of oxygen, and many other traditional hazards of mountain climbing? Then this is the list for you.The highest peak in the Bahamas is lower that the Manhattan Island high point, and quite possibly lower than where you are right now reading this.

This list was compiled by looking an old copy of the offical government "Atlas of the Bahamas" that had good maps with spot elevations for various points on the islands. I assumed that the island high points were among these spot elevations. However, many of these points are unconfirmed, and if you are serious about this list, you should consider doing some research using small-scale topographic maps to verify the locations and elevations presented here. Or inquire locally.

Note that not all islands are shown here. The high points of the Andros archipelago are uncertain, for example. So there is not real cutoff on this list for now, and it is just a semi-random listing of most of the major Bahama island high points.

I have no idea what ground conditions are when trying to access these points. There may be issues with private property and dense tropical vegetation. So despite the lack of any real elevation, completing this list may actually be quite challenging: getting to all the islands, verifying the points, and finding a way to get there could become quite a project.
