Ascent Trip Report

Started our(Dave MacKenzie and Cody Borigo)climb late Friday (2/26) AM from Adirondak High Point Info. Center. We climbed to about 3500 ft dug a snow trench for 3 and spent the night there. Light snow all night that made our plastic roof sag but the trench was warm and kinda dry (condensation dripped from the roof). We used a 9x12 piece of 3 mil plastic for the roof. Woke up early Sat. AM cooked breackfast, packed camp, used the plastic to cover our packs and used Camelbacks to summit. Lost the trail around 4000ft and fell into a false bottom below a snow drift. Sank in up to my arm pits and my snow shoes were wedged in the snow. Poked with my poles until I could wigle my snow shoes then Dave and Cody pulled me up so that I could slide out on my belly. From base camp to the summit we were the first people up the mountain after the the area got hammered with 2ft of snow at the lower elevations and high winds. Busting the trail open was not easy. Descend fronm the peak we passed about 20 climbers going up which made the descend very fast. The weather conditions listed below reflect conditions on the summit. Winds were about 40-50 mph.
