Ascent Trip Report

AMC WHP backpack - started with two groups (totaling 15 people) at about 11am from the Crawford Connector Trailhead, just up Clinton Rd. Severe blowdown on the Mizpah Cutoff slowed us down a bit, but we were already going fairly slowly, given the size of the group. Got to the tentsite and picked out a spot at about 3pm - set up camp, kitchen area, boiled water and ate/drank for a little while. Set off for Pierce at about 5pm, just as it was getting dark. Summitted the South Peak of Pierce, then the main peak, and returned to camp (most of this trip in darkness, using headlamps). Made dinner, bailed water for the night, ate and went to bed. Woke up to temps of -10F, ate some breakfast, took down tents and set off back to trailhead. En route, however, we missed the turnoff onto the Mizpah Cutoff and spent an extra 3 hrs wandering along the Webster Cliff Trail before the white AT blazes were noticed and we retraced to the cutoff. Made it down to the trailhead at 2:15pm.
