Ascent Trip Report

This was one of my NE 100 Highest hikes and because i had already complete Cabot, decided to start from the other direction using the Unknown Pond trail. Not as many winter hikers as the 4000 footers so the trail was a little more difficult to follow. It was snowing all day and covering the tracks of other hikers. I ended up doing some bushwhacking when loosing the trail but quickly found the trail again using my GPS. I had decided to not use my snowshoes because the snow crust was on the most part hard enough to support my weight and I only post holed one and awhile. On the way down, lost one of my spikes in a post hole and had to hike back up about 1/2 mile to find it again. Started around 8:30 am and finished around 3:30. This trail took a lot longer than my usual pace and that was because of trail finding. The distance covered according to my GPS was 11.9 miles. Good hike overall and made it back home in time to meet the dinner guest my wife had invited.
