Ascent Trip Report

I see the elevation as 2624’ on topo maps online... not sure why elevations don’t match here. We hiked to Indian Head via the Gill Brook trail, which was other-worldly and revived my youngest son’s hiking spirit when he had been whining along the dirt road walk. The waterfalls were stunning. As soon as we hit the Gill Brook trail, Ben began to run and take the lead, so it turned out he wasn’t sick as I had thought- just bored walking a straight, dirt road. The ascent to Indian Head was long but not very steep and it was well worth the iconic view. We did have a little trouble with poorly marked trails about 1/2 way up. The summit was busy with hikers and it was hot, but we soaked in the view. We descended using the first trail junction that brought us down to the road sooner than the Gill Brook trail. (I suffered a bad case of reflux on the hike, but finally found relief on the way out. ??). The kids crashed in the grass in the shade by the golf course while I trekked out to get the car. ??My trip notes state we took 7 hours(including stops at waterfalls to explore, lunch, getting a little lost, and summit time) from the car on Rte. 73 (left it at 9:15am) - we sumitted Indian Head around 1pm.
